Dean just literally fangasmed all over Dr Sexy in Changing Channels, and those were definitely the dreamy eyes of a guy completely turned on over someone he "really" liked. You’ll be joining these guys. The writers have been deliberately highlighting Dean's sexuality as ambiguous since season 1, back before Castiel was even a thought in Kripke's head. I think you have that backwards. This wasn't a moment that only the Destiel fandom would've liked to have seen. Yes there are vocal minorites, but there are also a lot of very logical sane people who happen to ship two guys because they feel like the show has presented them that way. And yes, it would be daring for them to do it, some fans have the faith that they would be brave enough to make that happen. The debate isn't really over Dean loves Cas and Cas loves Dean. I'll just leave now. The base is present, you can push it to the next level without any altering of the past. Now I'm not saying a gay man wouldn't enjoy those things, but I am saying I believe the writers have long attempted to illustrate that Dean is clearly a straight character.
Maybe not so much faith in the cast and crew. But Dean's also not 100% straight either no matter what people say.
