Canoe for Men by Dana 8.0 oz 240 ml EDT Splash. Ok? Tabu to me smells more like a library than a "lady of a night" and a pretty nice one at that. Along with Emeraude, it was her signature scent. I'm not an expert on Tabu bottles, but I've seen them over a 65+ year period, and bought a few in the 1950's - 1980's. A single spray, pressed between the wrists and then distributed on the throat plate is about the right amount for me. Just love it! Perfume lovers: 580556 I figured, if it doesn't work out, it was a minor investment. It's warm and comforting.
Liquid time capsule and a genius study in beautiful cheapness. The concoction of musk, amber and vanilla is truly a very sensual and delightful scent, it is all around in fragrances such as this one and Obsession. Really impressed by all those who said that they wore it as teenagers! Now that it's winter, I'm kinda obsessed with Tabu. Sounds weird, but it’s actually quite pleasant. I miss this era. The newer version is sweeter and less daring and does not last anywhere near as long but I think they are different concentrations too. Carles worked for Roure Bertrand, a company associated with fashion houses such as Nina Ricci, Christian Dior, Elsa Schiaparelli and Cristóbal Balenciaga.. but this was way too mature for me and I'm in my 20s. In today's standards, it is more masculine imho. The way I smell it is the way fellow fragrantica member summed it up - "smell is root beer/dr. All I could think of is that I smell like I am embalmed. But since I've never encountered the original, the modern version has to do. THIS SMELLS SIMILAR TO ORGANZA INDECENCE BY GIVENCHY.
Yes, it´s retro - but it´s absolutely wearable & timeless. The Tabú found nowadays is indeed nothing like the beast I remember from 30 - 40 years ago, and to me, that is a good thing. I rarely find the right occasion to wear this but when I do it's perfect. My first memory of smelling Tabu was when I was a little kid and I used to smell the bottles of stuff on my older sister's vanity dressing tables back in the 60's. Potent to the point that i would smell exactly like Tabu the next day even though I had only handled the bottles long enough to box it up. The oldest bottle has lost some of the top notes, but is still nice. :). I have one from the 7s and its amazing. Compared to some of the outright skanky and screeching scents out there, this is a scent for the woman who goes to the bar alone for a well-made cocktail, not in desperate hopes of getting taken home. On me, this smells like head shop and cream soda, or maybe Dr. Pepper? My entire aesthetic is that of a $2 streetwalking whore, that’s why I love wearing this perfume. The spices in the heart accentuate the beauty of exuberant flowers: jasmine, narcissus, rose and ylang-ylang. Dana Classic Fragrances English Leather Black Cologn ... But since I have been rediscovering some vintage fragrances lately I decided to try this and what a pleasant surprise!
I know you need to wait for some fragrances and after a while this odour changed into quite a sweet spicy scent. It is one of my favorite go-to scents to start wearing in late October to mid-November as it lingers on everything I wear in the best possible way. A guess as to why it might smell disagreeable on some based on my own experimentation is if the day before I have been eating alot of meat, cold cuts and hotdogs (known to result in an increase of purines and uric acid in the body) with very little to no vegetables and not drinking enough water/fluids letting myself get dehydrated for some odd reason, the tar like qualities of the Patchouli and Oak Moss in it become more pronounced on my skin for the first 5 minutes or so and this was true when experimenting with other fragrances containing either or both of these ingredients! It has always been among my favorites and I am almost never without a bottle. My mother still wears this till this day.
Same way we (80s kid here) perceive many new offerings, considering them a joke smelling like strawberry bubblegum and blueberry lollipop. Sweet memories!! It looks like you can still buy fresh ones at Amazon for a mere $11; there's one linked currently to this webpage. Suddenly Youth Dew, Opium and Coco made perfect sense---they were descendants of Tabu.
