I haven't actually seen the original Highlander film but as a stand alone anime film I though this was brilliant and definitely worth a watch if your an anime fan. Voice acting is rather dry since Westerners lack the voice coloring of the Japs (the movie is on English). But other than that one detail, I found this highly enjoyable and for $0.50 it would be hard to beat the entertainment value. Fate, however, separates them when Fuuma's mother died under a mysterious circumstances. The hero in the story is an Immortal whose woman was killed by a megalomaniac Immortal a 1.000 years ago. Verdict: If revenge is a dish better served cold, then this movie has no spark of warmth in it.
It is a mistake to watch this movie without being aware of the Highlander movies and tv series. This was the first time a Western franchise or concept was adapted to anime, but was followed closely by the "Witchblade" anime.

It is quite silly if you try to reason it, as it is brimming with Manihaistic concepts (good vs evil) and it’s filled with heavy-dudes who have nothing better to do with eternity, other than fighting each other with medieval swords. He pretty much spends this millennium hunting him in order to get revenge… and that’s it. The name Yoshiaki Kawajiri carries some serious weight among anime fans and aficionados. I mean, the hero does think it over and towards the end of the movie does not live for revenge but to protect the new woman he loves (which is effectively the same woman, reincarnated) … Not that this changed anything.
Alas, I'm sure the rights were too expensive.

But I have to say I enjoyed this a whole lot better than any sequel made after the original Highlander! It came on time and it works and I enjoyed.
